ISO 12863:2010 - IGNITION PROPENSITY TEST CHAMBER hr eng

ISO9001:2008
ISO12863
ISO128632010

A test method is established for the testing the propensity of a cigarette to ignite soft furnishings.
This International Standard is applicable to factory made cigarettes.
The main element of the testing procedure is ignition propensity test chamber.
Test chamber is rectangular, with a chimney, made from clear, rigid material and allows observation of the entire examination, made to ISO 12863 standard.
The test chamber contains substrate holder, metal rim to fix substrates in the holder and cigarette holder, to follow ISO 12863 standard requirements.
Additional elements to make testing more reliable:
Automatization equipment (several levels of examination process automatization).
Software suite to control and automate examination procedure (with or without automatization equipment).

A very common initiating event in fatal fire is the dropping of a cigarette onto a bed or piece of upholstered furniture.
The burning cigarette heats the furnishing materials to the point where smouldering combustion begins.
Since limiting the frequency of ignitions is a principal approach to reduce fire loss.
This International Standard provides a standard assessment of the capability of the cigarette to extinguish, or to generate sufficient heat to continue burning.
